History
Born into a musical family, Matt McElwain has always been immersed in music one way or another. Whether it be through witnessing countless fantastic musicians perform or moving musical equipment at his parents music store, Sound Town, he was fitted for a musicians life.
After going through numerous sports activities that never seemed to satisfy the true musical passion within, at the age of 14 drumming became his obsession and love. It was at this age that he began to take seriously the possibilities of the drumset that he had always played around on since he was 8.
He through the random luck of the world met Alex Wiggans and began to take private instruction on a truly unique level. Having a supportive dad who constructed a studio for him, two drum sets faced each other and it was here that Mr. Wiggans and Mr. McElwain began to forge the technical and educated style that Matt has continued to improve upon. Having also taken two additional years of instruction from Bill Larson and Jimi Bauchat at Colorado Music Institute, as well as participating in the jazz band and drum line throughout his high school education, Matt felt ready for yet another challenge in his journey to become a true musician.
After an audition and lengthy application process, Matt McElwain was accepted to the prestigious University of Colorado at Denver Music Program as a music performance major for percussion. While going to college, Matt played with many different bands ranging from pop to metal. We can expect to see a monster in tastefulness and musical prowess on the horizon in the evolution of Matt McElwain.
